2004 - Preservation News
The
Collingwood Action Group (CAG), supported by the City of Yarra, the National
Trust, and ADS, is continuing its battle to preserve historic buildings
in Smith Street Collingwood. A massive development would result in demolition
of a number of buildings, including the Coles Store #1,
updated to a design by Harry Norris. ADS has carried out research on other
former Coles stores in suburbs including Carnegie, Moonee Ponds, Preston
and St. Kilda, a number of which are in surprisingly intact condition.
Details of the CAG activities can be found at http://www.smithstreet.org/.
ADS objection to the City of Yarra can be found on the site under 'heritage'.
