In 2005, plans were announced to sell the Freemasons Hospital to a consortium made up of Epworth Hospital and ING Real Estate. The purchasers have confirmed that the hospital will continue to provide medical facilities at the site.

After protracted negotiations between the East Melbourne Group and the developers, the proposal to extend a two-storey block in Garden Avenue, East Melbourne, an enclave of interwar apartment blocks, has been resolved. Some modifications to the existing block have been agreed to, but the proposed extensions will not occur.
